Wonton Strips Ingredients
Wonton strips preparation needs only three ingredients in which the first one is that you can easily find the wrappers from the stores or shops near you. The second main ingredient is the oil. We need the oil for the frying process. You can use the canola oil because the canola oil gives the natural flavour to the strips. The third ingredient which we need is salt because it adds a salty taste to the strips. If you want to use table salt, use it only in low amounts.
Heating the Oil
When starting the process of frying the wonton strips, first of all check the temperature of the oil. It affects the crispness of the strips. The ideal temperature for the frying process is about 360°F (182°C). When we are frying the strips the temperature of the oil increases so to check the temperature we should use a candy thermometer. Use a thermometer to check the temperature of the oil after each batch. If you have no thermometer use the other tricks such as Wonton Strip Test, Bread Cube Test and Wooden Spoon. In this way we check the hotness of the oil.
If we want to check if the oil is ready or not then put the handle of the wooden spoon into the oil. If the oil starts the reaction on the wood then it is ready. If you see the bubbles around the handle in a huge number the oil is ready for frying then you can put the wonton strips into the oil for frying purpose. If there are too many bubbles on the handle it means that the oil is overheated. It causes the black colour of the wontons. If you see a few bubbles it means that the oil is not ready for the frying purpose and wait for some time.
If we don’t have a thermometer to check if the oil is ready to fry or not then use the bread because the bread is the combination of sugar and starch. If the oil is ready for fry purpose the colour of bread changes to golden brown. If the oil is too hot then its colour will be dark golden and if it is not ready for frying purpose it absorbs more oil.
If we don’t have a thermometer then the other method to check if the oil is ready for the frying purpose or not is to put some popcorn into the oil. By observing their colour we can estimate that oil is ready for the frying purpose or not. It is also a very easy method to check the oil temperature.
